Reclaiming is a home adornment, folk magic poppet. The poppet features a hand sculpted head that incorporates pine branches and roots protruding from the dome, as part of the process of the figures return to the earth, along with limbs in different stages of earthly reclamation. Her tea-stained, hand-stitched body is filled with repurposed organic stuffing, along with high alpine moss, soil, pine needles, and aspen leaves.
Those familiar with Christian mythology will recognize the Bible passage: “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” - Gen 3:19 (KJV)
Reclaiming began as a sculpted character head for Day 15 of the 2024 Mab Graves Drawlloween Club: “Haunted Forest” and she has grown into a beautiful and strange piece of folk magic poppetry.
